In 1957, turkey farmer Eddie Walle came to the blacksmith shop of brothers Cyril and Louis Keller in Rothesay, Minnesota, asking for help; he couldn't get his power loader between the poles that stood between the barns. So the Kellers agreed to help Walle build a lightweight power-propelled loader that could be moved up to the second floor of the barn and clean the space around the poles. They went to the junkyard to look for materials and ideas, and finally pieced together a three-wheeled loader with two drive wheels in the front and a small caster in the back. The new loader was equipped with a 6-horsepower core-start engine, was driven by independent left and right controls, and the tines of the forks on the front shovel were made from window frames from the nearby Rothesay Prison, which was the only steel strong enough that the Kellers could find at the time.

Skid steer loader is also called skid loader, multi-function engineering vehicle, multi-function engineering machine. It is a wheeled special chassis equipment that uses the linear speed difference of the wheels on both sides to realize vehicle steering. It adopts wheeled walking mechanism, all-wheel drive, and skid steering. It can quickly replace or connect various working devices at the work site to adapt to different working environments and work contents. The power of skid steer loader is generally 20~50 kilowatts, the main machine weight is 600-1200 kilograms, and the speed is 0~6 kilometers per hour. It is mainly used in places with narrow working sites, uneven ground, and frequent changes in work contents.

A skid loader is also called a skid loader, a multi-purpose engineering vehicle, or a multi-purpose engineering machine. It is a wheeled special chassis equipment that uses the linear speed difference of the wheels on both sides to achieve vehicle steering. It is mainly used in places where the work site is small, the ground is uneven, and the work content changes frequently.

It is suitable for infrastructure construction, industrial applications, dock loading and unloading, urban streets, residences, barns, livestock houses, airport runways, etc. It can also be used as auxiliary equipment for large-scale engineering construction machinery. There are two ways for skid loaders to travel: wheeled and crawler

As its minimum turning radius is less than half of that of the articulated loaders of the same level, it is particularly suitable for operations in narrow places such as urban infrastructure, roads or construction sites, factory workshops, warehouses, docks, ship decks and even cabins.
